Important Safety information for Hycet® (hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen) CIII.
The most important facts about Hycet:
Hycet (hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen) CIII is used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. Hycet contains hydrocodone, a narcotic pain reliever and cough suppressant; and acetaminophen, a non-narcotic pain reliever and fever reducer. Hycet is considered a controlled substance which can lead to dependence or addiction if not taken properly. Only your doctor can determine if Hycet is right for you.
Special warnings regarding Hycet:
Hycet contains acetaminophen, a drug found in many over-the-counter medications used to treat pain, including medications for allergies, cold, and flu symptoms. Acetaminophen has been known to cause severe liver injury which can sometimes lead to liver transplant and death. Most cases of liver injury occur when too much acetaminophen has been taken and if more than one acetaminophen-containing product is used. Do not take Hycet with other products containing acetaminophen, and do not take more than the amount prescribed by your doctor.
Do not take Hycet if you are allergic to hydrocodone or acetaminophen, or experience unusual reactions to narcotic pain relievers or acetaminophen-containing products. Serious allergic reactions can occur. Stop taking Hycet and seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as swelling of the face, mouth, or throat; have trouble breathing; develop a rash; or experience vomiting.
Hydrocodone, like all narcotics, can impair mental and/or physical abilities required for the performance of potentially hazardous tasks such as driving a car or operating machinery. You should avoid these tasks when taking Hycet.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant; nursing; are taking other medications including narcotic pain relievers, allergy medications, antidepressants, acetaminophen-containing products, or other medicines that cause central nervous system depression, including alcohol.
Let your doctor know if you have other medical problems; a history of drug or alcohol abuse; recent head injury; emphysema, asthma, or other chronic lung disease; liver or kidney disease; underactive thyroid; Addison’s disease; enlarged prostate; or difficulty urinating.
Take Hycet only as prescribed by your doctor. This medicine can cause drug dependence and has the potential for abuse. Do not take more Hycet than is prescribed; more often than it is prescribed; or for longer periods than what your doctor has prescribed.
Side effects which can occur with Hycet:
This medication can cause side effects such as abdominal pain, constipation, difficulty urinating, dizziness, drowsiness, fear, fuzzy thinking, general feeling of discomfort or illness, light-headedness, mood changes, nausea, nervousness, rash, shortness of breath, slower reactions, unusual tiredness, and vomiting. Call your doctor if these effects continue or are bothersome, or if any new, unusual symptoms occur.
